Beginning Scuba Diving

Your Open Water Scuba Diver certification allows you to rent equipment and/or buy air fills for your tanks. It gives you the basics to start diving with a friend or buddy and limits the depth you can dive to a certain number of feet. Your open water scuba diver certification permits you to dive from 60 feet below the surface. But remember, some of the best diving is found well above 60 feet! (For deeper dives and night dives, learn about scuba lessons for the Advanced Open Water Certification.)

Your scuba instructor will teach you all of the basics with some book time required on your part. In addition to the books, there is a pool dive followed by 4 open water dives. The instructor will also test your new scuba skills during the final dives to make sure you have mastered the basics of breathing underwater!
